Background

BECG were asked to provide a comprehensive communication and consultation campaign in support of proposals for an industrial and distribution park development at the former Coalite works, Buttermilk Lane, Bolsover.

Key project information

The site spreads across the boundaries of two local authorities; therefore, the application was submitted to Bolsover District Council and North East Derbyshire District Council

How we helped

After undertaking detailed stakeholder analysis, BECG devised key messages and a campaign tailored to each audience, designed to inform, involve and influence stakeholders.  The campaign covered:

  • Early contact with the councils and officers
  • Contact with the local MP
  • Engaging with neighbouring residents via 121s
  • Holding a public exhibition
  • Managing the local media
  • Mobilising third party advocates

Outcome

Residents’ concerns were addressed from the outset, in particular regarding the impact the development would have on Bolsover Castle, which is owned by English Heritage.

BECG uncovered a large amount of support, which was developed and promoted throughout the course of the project.
