Haulage Yard, Cecil Road
Woolbro Homes and Jenga Plc appointed BECG to lead the communications strategy for the re-submission of an industrial site to a residential and office-led development.
Key project information
The site was acquired from Notting Hill Housing in summer 2017, after it was rejected by Harrow Council, largely on the grounds of the change-of-land use. The loss of industrial land was viewed as a major loss of employment in that part of Harrow & Wealdstone, so the task was to demonstrate the extensive employment and other contributions the client would provide instead.
How we assisted
With the knowledge that the scheme would be politically difficult, BECG engaged with all political stakeholders, including ward councillors, the Leader and Key Cabinet members to achieve their buy-in, as well as gaining feedback to improve the proposals. This is all whilst keeping existing tenants and the local community informed.
The messaging has been critical to differentiate the scheme from the previous application and show the extensive opportunities and contributions that could be provided.
The high level political engagement worked well and feedback received thus far has been positive.
The application is expected to be considered at Committee in November 2018.
